BDA Licences v3 > v4+?As there is no support or indication of the future likelyhood of an internal card that will be supported on x64 systems I've had to jump ship.
I've bought a crappy compro E800F PCIe card and after a bit of manual tweaking managed to get DigiTV to Tune into all available channels.
Despite the countless unfixed DigiTV problems it is still infinitely better than the useless software that compro ship with thier card, however before I make a decision, I have a few questions that I'm hoping can be answered if anyone authoritively knows the answer.
1. If I buy multiple licences now will they still be valid for the v4 Software should it ever arrive?
2. Whilst still in beta (should it ever arrive) will version of v4.5 support BDA without a licence?
3. If I buy now, as a once loyal long standing repeat customer, will I get shafted with a price change and special offers for new customers if the new software ever arrives?
4. Given that V4 was announced over 2 years ago without even a sniff of a beta, does anyone really believe that v4.5 will appear?

There's a hardware incompatibility that makes the PCI tuner almost impossible to interface with the Windows 64 bit platform.
Given that PCI ports are becoming rare on new motherboards, it should be no surprise that the PCI tuner will become obsolete eventually. (which is a PITA for me too)

I will ask. ATM only buy them if you intend to use them with V3.7

I will ask, although Peter is likely to stick with the current licence arrangement for the beta.

I may copy and send this question to Virgin Media

Yes it will....
...eventually !

Clarification on BDA and V4 licence arrangements | Nebula Media wrote: |
DigiTV V4 is to be released as software only (at least for the time being), which means that if someone purchased it, then it would work for BDA tuners as well as for DigiTV WDM tuners. This means that old customers will have to pay for the upgrade even if they have a DigiTV tuner they bought years ago (I never signed up to work for everyone for free in perpetuity!). That having been said, I will probably work in an automatic discount for existing DigiTV users at the time they buy the license.
A single v4 software purchase would allow the user to bring together as many BDA and/or DigiTV WDM tuners as they have on a single machine (the types can be mixed if the user wants to).
Obviously, V3.7 BDA licenses will not work with V4. However, an upgrade will be made available so that a V4 BDA license can be bought more cheaply if they have a pre-existing v3.7 license.

It's a sad inevitable fact that hardware becomes obsolete and support dies for it. My comments at the lack of support for x64 internal hardware were not just aimed at the dropping of support for the pci card but also lamenting the lack of a internal solution to act as a replacement for the PCI card.
Having said that, given that the PCI card is still being sold as a current product, I would have expected current and continuing support for it.
as for the software issue.. With DigiTV V4.5 (V4 was never released) apparently just round the corner I'm hardly going to buy V3.7 licences now given that there is no commitment to allow new purchasers to upgrade to V4.5
and as for the Beta issue, should it ever arrive... I would hope that the beta allows full use of BDA. Again I'm hardly going to pay for a licence to test buggy beta software which I may not like or which may never be finished..
