Dual PCI Setup help & advice please

I have been a Nebula DigiTV PCI user for years and I thought I would obtain another card for a multituner setup. I have installed the second card and drivers restarted the pc and checked the devices in the settings menu. The two PCI cards are detected and there is a tick in the check box for each, below this there is only one tick in the check box marked R/C I guess this is the one with the remote control eye?

Tuner 1 is a half height Zarlink
Tuner 2 is a NXT device

I don't seem to be able to make the two cards work together. All I get is an empty box with the usual.. File Tvchannel Radiochannel EPG etc at the top.

If I check the Activity menu it shows Tuner 1-BBC1 and Tuner 2-Film 4 with a tick next to tuner 1. I can select between the two but I get no picture or sound. Recording produces no file at all

If I remove a card, either card it works fine. I have swapped cards round and moved to other PCI slots but no joy. Am I missing something?

MoBo is gigabyte GA-M55 plus S3G (5 pci slots)
Nvidia 7600GT
XP Pro SP2
Twinhan PCI DVB-S (also a fusion 878 device)
DigiTV 3.7.14

Gromit.

Have you tried removing the twinhan and its drivers (just to check)?

It's been a while since I ran two PCI cards in a machine. I don't remember anything too specific other than I had problems with a PCI riser

Have you seen this (from tips and tricks):
Quote:
Occasional USB (and PCI??) initialisation issues

On some PCs, connected USB devices may not be initialised properly at boot time
For reasons only Nebula would know - A master USB shows up as a slave in the Device Attached list, with a big negative serial number, and doesn’t function correctly until DigiTv is restarted.

Creating a startup batch file that delays DigiTV startup at boot/login time can address this, ie replace the DigiTV.exe shortcut in the Startup folder, with a batch file containing something like:

@ping 127.0.0.1 -n 2 -w 1000 > nul
@ping 127.0.0.1 -n 2 -w 1000 > nul
start "DigiTV" "C:\Program Files\Nebula\DigiTV\DigiTV.exe" SLEEP
exit

(ping acts as a sleep command, as a generic sleep app isnt available on platforms other than Win2003).

Also worth trying if strange PCI problems are occuring for you at boot.

Hi Gromit,

I have been using two PCI cards for a couple of years quite successfully. Unlike you mine are two identical half-height cards, so it is not a directly comparable case.

One strong recommendation I would make is to NOT use the pass through from the first card to the second. At least where I am the signal strength is not enough to power both cards serially. Invest a few pounds in a high-quality aerial amplified/booster, this should help. However, having re-read you question, I'm not convinced this is the problem.

Is there a clash with other third-party PCI card in your system? Have you tried just the digiTV cards?

If I think of anything else, I'll pop back later.

Thanks guy for the replys, I kinda thought that you might say remove the Twinhan card and retry... I'll give it a go and see. and also try the other idea

At the end of the day I will want the Twinhan left in as it dosen't cause any problems when a single DigiTV card is installed (it has been like that for years) and we then keep the sat in the box

The worst case is I will have to put the second DigiTV card in another pc and have two pvr's or maybe get a usb slave tuner instead.

I wasn't using the pass through, I have a mains powered amp with twin output so each card had its own aerial connection.

I have spent hours on this but no joy as yet. (check the time of posting)

I uninstalled the Twinhan card drivers then removed it, I have tried every possible combination of cards and slots but to no avail.

The best I seem to be able to do is recieve MUX 2 and MUX C but only with one card or the other when both cards installed???????

God Knows what's going on. Anyone want to swap a usb tuner for a PCI master?
