Order of programmes in PVR window after file move

I recently moved all the existing nebula recording files from one drive to another in preparation for moving from Win2K to XP.

Now, when looking at the recordings list (main menu-pvr-tv recordings) the last few that were directly recorded on this drive are in chronological order, the ones moved from the previous drive are in reverse alpha order.

The file dates as viewed in windows explorer are correct, and a sort on date gives me the order I would have expected - but explorer is looking at the modified field - I'm using NTFS.

DigiTV seems to be picking up the file created date rather than the modified date, which is the date the file was copied over.

Is there any way to fix this?

Last time I had this, I found a program on the internet to manually fix each file by setting the Create date (bit of a pain really). Sorry, can't remember the name of it, but hopefully Google should be your friend.

I did try to write a Delphi program to simply process and fix all files in a directory, but could only find example code to change the modified date Sad

Thanks, I'll have a look for a suitable utility.

Thinking about it since I might have come up with a no frills solution at least to the order if not the date.

I have over 500 files to modify, I strongly suspect a sort on date and then a copy past to the new drive would have kept them in the right order but explorer took them in alpha order (or maybe in reverse alpha)

so my solution (untested) is sort on modified date in explorer

select contiguous batches of say 50 files from the oldest to the newest

copy paste them back to the existing directory

once completed, delete the original files

rename the copies (File Renamer basic does this fine) to remove the "Copy of " from the file.

repeat for the other batches until finished.

Hi M100,

This happened to me when building my New PVR.

Fortunately I still had the original files, I had been copying the files rather than Cutting and Pasting them.

If you cut and paste them the date meta data remains the same. I've often cut and pasted (moved) groups of files to new folders. This works correctly, but is a bit risky if something happens part way through the move process.

I went back to my original files and copied them using the following Microsoft utility (RICHCOPY):

What ever you do make sure RICHCOPY only copies one file at one, otherwise your files become horribly fragmented and the process is very slow (the copy threads needs to be set to 1)

Unfortunately either of these methods will only work if you have access to the original files. Sad

This may not help you now but may help others who a considering moving files.

Richard,

Who has both a copy command and a text format named after him! Wink

I decided to have a another go at my program, and appear to have got it to work.

I have just run it on my recordings folder & it has fixed some I had which were wrong.
The program simply copies the Modified Date to the Create Date of all*.mpg files.

I have put it onto rapidshare here: [removed - see next post]

Un-zip and run the program. Browse to your Recordings folder and then Go.

DigiTV needs to be re-started to pick up the revised dates.

Pls enjoy at your own risk

Hope you don't mind but i added the file so there's no download limit.

No problem - someone sometime may find it slightly useful.

Thanks Mike C, just given it a go and it's fixed the problem, extremely quickly - maybe too quickly Very Happy as if I could make a small criticism there is no visual confirmation that the process has been completed other than looking at the file properties themselves or seeing no activity in task manager, or I'd guess in trying to open a new directory and finding the dialog blocked.
