Remote has stopped workingHello all
I've recently bought and installed the Nebula PCI card and it's by far the best freeview card I've used.
One problem, the remote has stopped working. It worked when I first installed the card and driver, then after a few hours it stopped. I've looked through previous threads on this forum and tried swapping the batteries, uninstalling the software, re-installing, uninstalling the card alltogether, then re-installing. And I've not installed anything else which may conflict with the card or driver.
Maybe someone else on this forum has had a similar experience and managed to remedy this problem? If so, please tell me how.
Thanks very much

remoteI have had the same problem almost since I bought the digitv, I have tried everything, I re soldered the socket on the board as it had dry joints, still no luck, it will work if I put the remote right up to the receiver but no more than a few inches away, I have no idea what causes it,
I have tried everything I can think of, the only thing I can say is I think it is a software problem not hardware as it has on occasions worked perfectly, now I use mce remote, just to frustrating to spend anytime on.

USB unaffectedI have had this problem too. I found that the only cure was to do a full re-install of windows. However this did notlast as it went again. It does not effect the USB tuners however. If you can get a Master USB unit and then set it to use the RC it will work fine. It is some kind of PCI issue.
hope you can find one.

Open Digitv, press I (on the keyboard) to reveal the Media Information window. Select 'General'
Check the Remote Control Code is 0x00000000 when there is no remote button pressed. If the value is constantly changing; It should change to a fairly steady value when you press a remote button (different value for each key).
Try rerouting the IR receiver cable away from other leads. If that doesn't work try shielding the IR receiver with a newspaper (to exclude external light sources like flourescent lamps etc.).
Some times the PC's power supply can cause a noise problem. Inside the IR puck is a small Printed ciruit board. There is room on the board for a small capacitor - If you have, or someone you know has, enough knowledge to fit one it can improve things (cheaper than replacing the PC's supply)

remote not working properlyHi Bill
thanks for the info, however whilst the information you give is good information, I think the problem is deeper than that, as I and Blanchas have stated, when first installed it works fine then for some reason it suddenly stops, in my case I was flabbergasted for it to start working after having had for about 4 years and never working, when did a new install of windows it worked great,
I was amazed but it didn't last more than a few weeks and with no changes made to the pc or software it just stopped again, as I said if I hold the remote no more than 300mm away it works but any more than that and nothing, the time it did work it worked so well I could point the remote anywhere in the room and it would work.

There's no mechanism within windows or DigiTV to control the strength of the signal; Either the remote has lost output i.e. the IR LED has faded (they can with age ) or the receiver has lost gain (less likely but still possible).
The only other possibility is that something, some driver or application, added after the windows install is slowing DigiTV's access to the hardware (requiring repeated bursts of IR code for DigiTV to get a correct code). This should show up as an inconsistency, or instability in the received code value.
Make sure you are using the correct and latest PCI chip-set driver for your motherboard.

I've found that the receiver can be very sensitive to positioning.
For example, I normally have it placed just below my LCD TV on the TV stand. If it's slightly in front of the TV it often fails to work, whereas if it's slightly behind it generally works OK. However when it was accidentally knocked onto the floor it worked flawlessly!
I'd try moving the receiver around and see if you can find a reasonably good position for it. As Bill says, using the 'I' key can be very useful in helping with this.

I tried the suggestions above, plus tried a "clean re-install" which was covered in older thread. Still, my remote is not working.
I've bought a Gyration wireless keyboard with mouse and I've been using those as a general remote. They work flawlessly. I may just stick with those and give up on the Nebula remote.
