I recently tried the Video Desktop feature of DigiTV (byRight-click in the picture and go down to the 8th item). It seemed to work OK but I turned it off.

Since then, red sparkles are seen in dark areas of the picture.

Not only that, the effect is now seen in other players including PowerDVD and MediaPlayer Classic.

I recall that I have seen the effect before but cannot remember how I got rid of it. I have tried DigiTV Shutdown and re-launch as well as computer Re-start and computer Shutdown to no avail.

Problem solved by WXP Restore, but that's an inelegant solution. I'd like to understand the cause if anyone can enlighten me thanks.
